Types of Volunteers

At Bookfest, we want our volunteers to find the perfect fit for them within the organization. That’s why we have two types of volunteer work for you to consider:

COMMITTEE VOLUNTEERS

These are volunteers who are interested in working with one (or more!) committees and can commit to attending most meetings.

CASUAL VOLUNTEERS

This group of volunteers is best suited to people who don’t know what their available time looks like but would still like to hear about volunteer options as they come up, particularly regarding short-term volunteer jobs. This could include manning an information booth at other events to promote Bookfest, driving authors to school presentations, distributing posters, opportunities for teens or helping out on the day of Bookfest itself.

YOUTH VOLUNTEERS

We have lots of opportunities for pre-teen & teen volunteers to help with BookFest including some of the short-term opportunities listed above in our ‘Casual Volunteer’ section. We also have a wonderful opportunity for youths to participate in the festival as “Bookies”. Bookies work in pairs and help with set-up and take-down before and after the festival. During the day, they look after a specific presenter and assist during presentations by directing attendees, taking tickets, and helping children and families find their places. It’s a great opportunity to spend a day having fun, meet other youth with similar interests and play a positive and active role in your community.
